What if your customer could see with one scan where a product comes from, what is in it, how it can be used, and what to do with it after use? It sounds like science fiction, but it’s closer than you think. The Digital Product Passport is changing the way we look at product information and the time to respond is now.
What is the Digital Product Passport?
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a digital document that provides insight into the full life cycle of a product. From raw material and origin to composition, use, recyclability and CO₂ impact. Everything is clearly available via, for example, a QR code on the product.
Starting in 2027, the DPP will become mandatory for the textile, electronics and battery sectors, among others. Other industries will soon follow. The European Green Deal and legislation such as the CSRD require companies to be transparent about their products, and the DPP is the central tool for this.
What does this mean for your logistics?
As a logistics provider or manufacturer, you face new demands for data transparency. Among other things, it means:
– collect more data on the origin and composition of products
– ensure digital availability of manuals and reuse information
– provide insight into CO₂ emissions and recycling opportunities
– work with supply chain partners to keep this information continuously updated
While that requires a lot, it also provides opportunities. With the right preparation, you can optimize processes, comply with legislation and serve customers better. Logistics thus becomes not just an executive link, but a strategic source of information.
