In logistics, everything revolves around trust. You want your products to arrive at the recipient in perfect condition, whether that’s a business customer or a consumer. Yet it regularly happens that shipments get damaged during transport. Especially with fragile goods, one wrong movement or poor stacking can be enough to cause damage.
At Van der Helm we know how important care is. That’s why we take measures in every part of the process to deliver pallets neatly, stably and undamaged.
The Foundation: a Sturdy and Stable Pallet
It starts with the right foundation. A pallet must be able to carry the weight of the load without bending or deforming. We use sturdy wooden or plastic pallets and ensure that the maximum load is never exceeded.
Additionally, we take into account the height and stability of the stacking. We don’t stack fragile products higher than 1.2 to 1.5 meters. We place heavy items at the bottom, light and vulnerable products on top. The shipment is secured firmly with stretch film, so everything stays in place, even during longer journeys.
Packaging: Protection Starts from Within
Good packaging is crucial to prevent damage. Products are carefully packed with protective materials such as foam, cardboard and air cushions.
For extra vulnerable items we work with double boxes, an inner and outer packaging that absorbs shocks and prevents products from shifting. Every detail counts, because a well-packed shipment is the best insurance against breakage.
Clear Labeling and Handling
Clear communication prevents misunderstandings in the chain. Pallets and boxes with fragile products are provided with clear ‘FRAGILE’ and ‘THIS SIDE UP’ labels. This way everyone involved knows how the shipment should be handled.
Additionally, we train our warehouse and transport teams in careful handling of fragile goods. That may seem obvious, but it’s precisely that attention in daily practice that makes the difference.
Transport and Storage: Stability on the Road
During transport we ensure maximum stability. Pallets are secured firmly in the truck and never stand loose.
To limit vibrations we use anti-slip mats and dampening materials where possible. For products that are sensitive to temperature or moisture we apply extra protection, such as moisture-resistant film or pallets with a plastic base layer. This way products remain in optimal condition, regardless of the conditions on the road.
Control and Certainty
Every shipment is checked for damage or irregularities before departure. When necessary we take photos of the load, so we can demonstrate the condition of the goods in case of claims.
Additionally, we always advise customers with fragile or valuable products to take out appropriate transport insurance. This provides extra security and prevents discussion in case of damage.
Care in Every Step
Van der Helm combines years of experience in transport with a strong focus on quality and care. We work with established partners, modern vehicles and well-trained drivers. Our goal is that every pallet is delivered safely, completely and undamaged, exactly as you expect.
