We would like to inform you that the goods you import will soon fall under the scope of the EUDR Regulation. The new regulation introduces additional requirements, which you will need to start preparing for, in order to ensure compliance.
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) aims to reduce Europe’s contribution to global deforestation and forest degradation, thereby combating climate change. Initially scheduled to take effect on December 30, 2024, the regulation’s implementation has been postponed. The new compliance date is now set for December 30, 2025, following delays in the European Commission’s own preparations.
If you are producing, importing, or exporting products or raw materials covered by the EUDR, you must ensure that they meet the stipulated requirements by this date.
The EUDR regulation applies to the following seven commodities: cattle, oil palm, soybean, cocoa, coffee, rubber and timber. A detailed list of raw materials, derived products, and associated HS codes can be found in Annex 1 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115.
Compliance Requirements
To export or place these goods on the European market, they must meet the following criteria:
- Deforestation-free: The goods must not originate from land deforested after December 31, 2020.
- Legal compliance: They must adhere to local social and environmental legislation in the country of origin.
- Due diligence: A due diligence statement must confirm negligible risk of non-compliance with the EUDR regulation.
Recommended actions
We strongly advise to starting preparations immediately to ensure a seamless transition to the new requirements. Delaying action could put your compliance at risk.
