Van der Helm's expertise in cross-border e-commerce

Cross-border e-commerce stands or falls with customs. We handle the declaration ourselves, with our own AEO-F certified department and a direct link to Dutch Customs. This removes a link in the chain, saving you time and reducing risk.

In-house customs department with AEO-F

Our customs department is in-house and submits digitally via DECO and AGS, directly linked to the Dutch Customs systems. Is a parcel selected for inspection? We will locate it and keep the rest of your shipment moving.

Real-time insight per shipment

You upload your manifest to our CBE portal and then follow every step: created, inbound, partial, and outbound. This way, you know exactly where your shipment is without having to email or call.

What can you expect in a collaboration?

A dedicated point of contact

You will be assigned a dedicated account manager who knows your flows. During a peak, a customs inspection, or a non-standard shipment, you will be communicating with someone who already understands your situation.

Clear agreements, also on Saturdays

Our pre-alert is 12 hours before arrival, and our warehouse is open seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. You know exactly what happens when, even on weekends.

Growing with your volume

We have been processing cross-border e-commerce flows for over five years and scale up as your volume increases. With us, peak season does not mean a queue.

Everything under one roof for your logistical convenience

At Van der Helm, we handle everything ourselves: transport, bonded storage, customs declaration, and delivery to your last mile carrier. This means one responsible party and one point of contact if something needs to be resolved. As a family business since 1936, we look beyond a single shipment, with more than 200 employees, 50 of our own trucks, and over 120,000 square meters of warehouse and e-hub space.

Our cross-border e-commerce services

We take care of the entire chain from airport to last mile. You choose the individual links you need, or the complete process.

Pick-up from the ground handler

As soon as your shipment is released, we collect the pallets or ULDs. Our driver checks the cartons and immediately records any damage on the POD, ensuring your claim with the airline remains valid.

Inbound scanning and sorting

We weigh and scan every master carton and every parcel upon receipt. Everything received before 2:00 PM receives an inbound scan the same day and is sorted by country and carrier.

Customs declaration and IOSS

Our own customs department handles the import declaration under direct representation, including IOSS shipments up to 150 euros. You don’t need to hire a separate customs agent.

Bonded storage and cross-docking

Our e-hub in Hoofddorp is a bonded location, with three other bonded warehouses for cross-docking and storage. Useful if your shipment cannot proceed immediately or enters the EU in phases.

Last mile and injection points

We deliver your parcels to DPD, UPS, DHL, or another network, or run LTL and FTL to injection points in the EU. Your shipment proceeds as soon as it is ready.

Returns and export

Also in the other direction: inspecting and processing returns, and declaring and shipping export consignments via air, sea, or road.

Integration with your systems

You submit your manifest via our browser portal or via an API connection. Our IT team will set up the integration with you, including the status updates you wish to receive. This way, no one in your team has to retype data.

Frequently asked questions about warehousing at Van der Helm

IOSS is the EU scheme where VAT is already settled on the webshop, for B2C shipments up to 150 euros from outside the EU. Your customer then pays nothing more at the door. We handle the import declaration for these shipments from our e-hub near Schiphol.

We need your manifest and AWB 12 hours before arrival. Everything received at the e-hub before 2:00 PM receives an inbound scan the same day and is prepared for transport.

Customs performs random checks. We track down the selected parcels and only set those aside, so the rest of your shipment continues as normal. You will be notified when items are held and when they are released.

Hazardous materials, excise goods such as tobacco and alcohol, loose or used lithium batteries, and counterfeit products are not accepted. If you are unsure about a product group, we can review the HS codes together beforehand.

Yes. We process flows from international webshops, marketplaces, and consolidators who want to centralize their EU imports in one place.

A recent Chamber of Commerce (KvK) registration, a signed direct representation agreement, and a GDPR processor agreement. After that, we will test your manifest together in our portal, and you can go live.
